once there was a time when microsoft‘s internet explorer was the world‘s best browser. simply because of the fact that it was more or less the only one. this has dramatically changed during the past years. for the mac platform internet explorer is not developed anymore since 2003 and for the windows OS there are many better options available now. even on the internet explorer download site microsoft suggests mac users to „change to another browser like apple‘s safari...“. safari has long been the best browser for mac and is since 2009 also available for windows. safari is indeed the browser which is displaying websites the closest possible to what web designers have designed, while other browsers are not able to display everything correctly. for the user the main issue is speed, and here, due to an increasing competition, we usually see safari, firefox and chrome competing - with every new update one surpassing the other one, for the sake of the user. all browsers are available for free - just click on the browser‘s name below or the corresponding symbol up left to be directed to the download page. beside the „main“ browser i suggest to have at least a second one installed, in case of troubles with any site.

after testing all available browsers both in mac and windows OS extensively we recommend:

1. safari (apple). best overall browser. excellent speed and graphic display. make sure you download the quicktime and flash plugin to display all media conveniently.
2. chrome (google). very slim, fast and easy to handle browser. the youngest in the top family but already very stable.
3. firefox (mozilla). very popular and broadest spectrum of add ons available, good video download options. version 6.0 is the only one i can really recommend - finally.
4. opera (opera). intelligent browser with special features. however, the newer versions can not be recommended anymore - very unstable and display problems.
5. internet explorer (microsoft). recommended for windows only. good overall browser, still the most popular in the world. make sure you have the newest version.
6. flock (flock). based on firefox and has as such the same pros and cons. main advantage is a seamless integration of twitter, flickr, youTube, facebook and so on.
